Larry claimed to have been spanked and slapped a lot when he was young but does not remember any uncontrolled incidents. He had heard from his sister that some violence occurred after Larry moved out. In my initial interview with him, he had recently found out from his 38 3. Participants father that his mother was an alcoholic, and when she had gotten drunk, she would get physically violent with Larry's father.

Again, Fred did not recall any incidents aside from this one. The story is quite different from interviews with Ann. She said that in November 1984, they started having problems in their marriage. Fred would return home from work, eat dinner, and then go out to a bar. As the weeks passed, he came home later and later. When he arrived home, he would want to have sex. When Ann started refusing him because he was drunk, he started to force her into it. Ann now sees that she experienced many instances of marital rape.
